A “Stich” In Time…

stichMore and more resources we would like to use with our students are found on the web. If the resource is text, we often find ourselves printing out and making photocopies for our class. In addition, if we find a video online, we stop our entire class from collaborating to project the video within the class. What if we could provide one spot where the students could review both text and multimedia? What if we could build in questions that allowed us to check for understanding or even ask the student to evaluate or analyze the content presented? Stich.it provides this type of environment, especially when combined with one of the many free online surveys or forms.

Stich.it allows the user to compile almost anything that is on the internet. The “stich” is a collection of website addresses that are then presented in a slideshow-like format. These website addresses might include written articles, web pages, images, video, audio, documents, and more.

Stich.it could be used to differentiate learning for students as well as in situations where the flipped-classroom concept is being utilized. Use of Stich.it could also be flipped where the student or group is gathering resources that supports an inquiry they are investigating, allowing the student or group to become a resource for other students.

In the following video, Aimee Bartis, an educational technologist in Texas, demonstrates how she uses Stich.it to allow students to evaluate the authors’ tone in three articles. How might you use Stich.it in your classroom?
